That said I can finally return to today's topic of choice: Salzburg. It's the fourth-largest city in Austria, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart's birthplace and we (which means me, my sister and my mum) took a weekend trip there.
You have to love 3-day-vacations. Sleeping in a nice hotel, going out for dinner, visiting museums, taking pictures, having the first punch of the year and simply getting away from everyday life. Sometimes you truly need that.
As we took the train and wanted to have as much time as possible in Salzburg we got up at 4 am on that friday. Carpe diem, biatch! You can imagine how fun the day started, but sometimes you have to make sacrifices. Getting up this early we definitely sacrificed sleep and our sanity - hello, you beautiful train selflies!
Having arrived a few hours later in the city to be, we instantly started a thought through tour. So basically we had no clue what to do. Here's what you do in that case: Find a well known café, go there, have a nice coffee with cake and make your plans for the day.
I present to you, Café Tomaselli being awesome since 1703. Eat cake! And if you do so, eat cake there, they have quite delicious ones. And coffee.
If you have the luck to visit Salzburg in winter (and on a weekend near to Christmas) you will find lots of Christmas markets, or as we like to call them 'Christkindlmärkte'. They are everywhere and they can get you christmassy in less than a second. Punch, cookies, lights and a huge Christmas tree. Unfortunately it didn't snow in the 3 days we stayed. However fortunate for my sister, who was convinced that 'it wouldn't be that cold'. Guess who was the first to say stuff like 'it's SO cold'. Yup, that's what happened, there you have your anecdote haha.
My sister thinks it was unnecessary to take a picture of this sign, she'll definitely think it's even more unnecessary to put it in this blogpost. And yet, here it is, probably getting you that adrenaline rush you waited for! Or not.
Next stop: Museum der Moderne. Definitely worth a visit. There's a terrace in front of the museum that gives you a great view of the city, even on a foggy November day. And, as you can see in the picture above, we also went to the Hotel Sacher. On Saturday we had dinner at the Salzach Grill, which is a restaurant belonging to the hotel and of course we also ate a piece of Sachertorte. Cliché olé.
As nice as the weather was on Friday, as shitty it was on Saturday and Sunday. To sum up the weather situation on these 2 days, there was rain and rain, a little bit of rain and rain raining all day long. Water and my camera don't like each other very much, which resulted in not taking any pictures. Shame on me, but Friday was very photogenic!
Despite the unfortunate picture situation I have a few points left to mention:
- a guided tour and a beer tasting at Stiegl are obligatory
- Hangar 7, just to say you have been there (you're allowed to take pictures, but not to publish them anywhere, where's the fun in that?)
- losteria, pizza-heaven in Salzburg
- punch!
- visit Mozart's Geburtshaus and his Wohnhaus, because classical music is nice after all (I bought a CD there. Yes, I surprised myself by doing that.)
And now the promised video of our trip.
